Webster Leadership Weekend

May 2010

WGS leadership weekendThe Webster Leadership Weekend brought together students from Webster Graduate School, Regent's American College London, study abroad and European Business School and was designed and delivered through a multi-disciplinary team of HASS and external facilitators.

The weather was more than kind over 21 – 23 May 2010 which saw 24 students come together at Cumberland Lodge for the annual Webster Graduate School Leadership weekend.  Cumberland Lodge is a Royal House set in the picturesque surroundings of the Windsor Great Park.

WGS leadership weekendOver the course of the weekend participants took part in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor sessions that focused primarily on teambuilding and developing individual leadership skills and understandings.  It consisted of panel sessions, exciting and insightful experiential activities that would often take participants outside their comfort zone. The highlight was a management simulation led by members of the Pax Ludens Training and Research foundation.  Participants were challenged to take on the role of national, regional or local leaders of a developing country plagued by structural shortcomings and to ensure the well-being of their population.

The conclusion of the event left student participants with an experience that was enjoyable, inspiring, physically and intellectually challenging at which they made new friends and perhaps most memorable of all for some: they saw The Queen!

"Studying International Relations at Webster Graduate School in London taught me two ways of International Relations: the academic way and the personal way...   In the academic life of International Relations, we learned and analyzed various political theories and their realization; methodologies and ways of research...   In the personal life of International Relations, we learned that it is possible for nearly all ethnicities, friends and enemies, to sit in one class-room, to listen to one professor, to share one lunch-break – suddenly we shared the same interests!  "
