National Module United Nations Conference
Students from Regent’s College recently attended the National Model United Nations Conference
in New York.
The conference is the culmination of yearlong preparation with
meetings, research, writing and fund-raising.
The Conference began with speeches in the General Assembly Hall
of the United Nations by both Secretary- General Ban Ki-moon and
H.E Dr. Srgjan Kerim, President of the 62nd Session of the General
Assembly. The UN leader congratulated participants on arriving as
student delegates and leaving as ambassadors representing the UN by
building a better understanding of the organization at a crucial
time. He also encouraged delegates to continue their support as a
catalyst for change.

The delegation from Regent's College, led by Team Leader Assaad
Khourchid attended representing the country of Swaziland. The
students encountered their peers from around the world who shared
their passion on issues like climate change and nonproliferation,
debating proposals put forth to address these issues from the
perspectives of diplomats of their assigned country.
The Regent’s College Ambassadors participated with enthusiasm in
the various forums and caucuses and represented their College
proudly. NMYN-NY 2008 brings more that 4,000 delegates from five
continents to New York City each year. The conference focus
includes more than 20 committees as well as a Security Council for
unaffiliated delegates. This year its sponsor, the National
Collegiate Conference Association (NCCA), celebrates 40 years of
experiencebased educational programs that further the understanding
of the United Nations and contemporary international problems.

"After finishing my High School education in South Africa I left for the US on a tennis scholarship. While I was there I completed 3 years of 4 year BA degree. After leaving the US I started work in London until I realised that I could finish my undergraduate degree and go on to complete a Masters degree at the Regent’s American College London and Webster Graduate School respectively. I graduated with a BA in Management in December 2001 and an MA in Computer Resources and Information Management in May 2003. The London campus of Webster University is truly magnificent as it is in a beautiful part of Central London."
