Why I Chose Webster Graduate School for My MBA

Webster is well heard of in some parts of Russia. I was actually recommended it by my mother’s friend who has strong links with a lot of prestigious UK universities and colleges. I am used to studying and working with people from all across the globe and I found that Webster provided a very similar environment.

Flexible Start Dates

The fact that the courses in Webster had flexible start dates was also a very important plus point for me due to my visa renewal taking longer than I thought. Moreover, I had completed an MA in Management and Leadership in Webster and I was aware of the standards of work and teaching at the university so I knew what to expect. (Although I would say that the standards are higher at MBA than MA level).

My parents and I were also pleasantly surprised with the location of the university building and its surroundings.

How My MBA Prepared Me for My Future Career

Having graduated with a BA in Law in 2003 I tried out different career routes but was not drawn to any particular profession. I started my MA in Management to broaden my horizons and to gain commercial acumen. I found that throughout my MA and MBA I was exposed to a wide range of subjects. I enjoyed the opportunity to learn about the different aspects of business and to try myself in the wide range of roles taken on by business managers.

I found that I particularly enjoyed and was good in accounting. Moreover, having acquired the knowledge about the various functions of an organisation I gained a much clearer idea of the role accounting plays. Inspired by my experience I discussed it with friends who worked in the industry. This helped me to dismiss the stereotypes I had about working as an accountant and to find a lot of similarities with my ideal job to my own great surprise. I am now looking into training contracts with several accountancy firms to start on completion of my MBA.
